I'm not sure I totally love this place, but it grew on me. The setting is paradise - the hotel is set up on the hill amongst wonderful wild nature, overlooking a beautiful bay. The staff are very sweet and helpful - and for our recent holiday with the baby - just wanting to flop on a beach and relax it was perfect. And lots of people obviously really love it - rates highly on Conde Nast Gold List and others. They were fantastic with the baby, and we met several people who go there because they're great with kids - without it being an overtly 'kid-friendly' type place. Everything was very lovely, without it having that something about it that makes me rave about it - not sure what it was. But value for money, it was great - and we didn't have to leave the hotel grounds to see wonderful birds and monkeys. Oh - one special thing - the hotel (genuinely eco-conscious) supports several community initiatives in the village, including an art project, which was great. And we loved the 'local' restaurant in the village too.

The location is amazing on a remote hilltop but just a short walk down to the beach so the views are stunning and especially from the infinity pool. The sea is perfect for boogie boarding and if you are a serious surfer there are a couple of Costa Rica's best surfing beaches nearby. There is enough to do when you get bored of lying on the beach with horse riding, tennis, a small golf course or a beautiful spa. They have some villas and suites if you want total privacy. The lunch time food down at the beach is great. Evening diner round the pool very romantic although the food is competent rather than amazing. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful although the concierge doesn't alway deliver what they promise.
