Age Group: Forties
Passions: The sea, boats, padding on a warm, wooden jetty, friendly aquatic life. Organic farms with cafes/restaurants/produce shops attached. Wes Anderson. Changing the mood in my home with the seasons. Styling from the soul. Walking somewhere beautiful and then cooking up a storm in the evening. Georgian architecture and aesthetic. Mixing up my own lotions and potions. The Brandenburg concertos. Sacred places.
Sort of places loved: I cannot help but love - even if I don't like the styling - places that are genuinely loved and cared for by their owners. There is an energy that embraces and inspires you and you just can't fake it.
Sort of places hated: Places that are just about making money where the aesthetic and energy behind the place is superficial. Anywhere that serves food where the providers aren't foody.

The Places janemolloy Loves
Kensal Green Cemetery 21.03.10
“Take a tour on a Sunday and make sure it is the first or third sunday of the month when they open the catacombs which are genuinely macabre and thrilling!”
Hereford Road 21.03.10
“Exceptional London restaurant. Quite meaty, although always good fish dishes, too. And yummy puddings. We have NEVER had an indifferent course here and also like the fact you can have decent wine by the glass, half litre or full bottle.”
Caravan 05.03.10
“Always tempted to buy a trinket or two, here.”
Tom's Deli 05.03.10
“Hillarious moment recently when owner Tom Conran came in wearing his motorcycle leathers holding a box of cakes and a new member of staff mistook him for a courier. Typical, understated Tom who has three brilliant establishments in W11 - Tom's, Lucky 7 and The Cow. Go to Tom's for breakfast, Lucky 7 for diner style lunch and The Cow for dinner. Pehaps not on the same day.”
Storey Deli 05.03.10
“Best pizza in London! Cool interior with impressive recycled seating”
Leila's 05.03.10
“Staff can be a bit sniffy but there's still a good vibe here. Simple, short menu, great coffee and outstanding hot chocolate.”
The Wolseley 05.03.10
“Glitzy, exciting, understated glamour. Have a drink at the bar first and then swan through in your best glad rags.”
Rochelle Canteen 05.03.10
“In the grounds of a now defunct Victorian school, Rochelle has no facade just a door with a bell. You then enter a pretty, outdoor space which leads to a modern, cube style, restaurant. They only do lunch, which is a shame, because the food is really good.”
Lucky 7 05.03.10
“Best burger bar in town. Love that it isn't part of a gourmet burger chain!! The burgers are well priced, delicious and organic to boot”
Chegworth Farm Shop 05.03.10
“There is a plethora of stylie food shops in Notting Hill and the Chegworth Farm shop is defiantly rather shabby and certainly not chic. It is however, bursting with all kinds of varieties of apples and pears from the farm, a huge selection of juices, well priced plants and flowers and lots of other goodies.”
Books for Cooks 05.03.10
“Tucked away, just off Portobello rd, this bookshop is every foodies dream. Serious cookbooks for serious cooks and a yummy cafe, too”
Campania 05.03.10
“A liitle bit of southern Italy sitting in Columbia Rd. Campania, with it's open kitchen, rustic charm and heavenly food is worth the shlep even if the flower market isn't on.”
Suck and Chew 05.03.10
“Not only good range of old fashioned sweets but a fabulous collection of vintage tins and Ladybird books, too.”
Albion Cafe 23.02.10
“I seem to share the same aesthetic as Terence - I even had Hector lights on a houseboat - so, I always feel at home here and the grub is yummy, homestyle too.”
St John Bar & Restaurant 23.02.10
“Quite simply, one of the only restaurants in London where I would dare to eat meat...the style is pretty funky too.”
Columbia Road Flower Market 23.02.10
“Feels like you've wondered onto a rom com film set with the added bonus of a really good selection of flowers (think Harpers and Tom's and Wild at Heart but at fraction of the cost) and terrace plants.”
Doune 15.01.10
“One of the last great wildernesses in Britain. There is no road into Doune. You either walk in which takes two days or get Martin to pick you up by boat from Mallaig. This is a walkers paradise and no words can describe quite how beautiful it is. The dining hall is first class too.”
Winchelsea 15.01.10
“If you are visiting Rye do not miss Winchelsea which is just a few miles away. There is one good deli come tea shop and a post office and nothing else which means no grockles piling into tacky gift shops. The town - the smallest in Britain - is exquisite and looks out onto marshes towards the sea.”
The George 15.01.10
“Voted one of the 5 best hotels in Britain by The Observer, this boutiquey hotel is hard to fault. Really nice touches in the bedrooms, good restaurant and slap bang in the middle of this gorgeous medieval town.”
Strand House 15.01.10
“No website no online shop, you just have to visit. These guys prop all the AllSaints stores and have just sent a vintage toy car from a funfair to the V and A for their new cafe. If it's good enough for the v and A......”
Country Ways 15.01.10
“A rather boring name belies a shop filled with a fantastic collection of vintage and antique kitchen collectibles. English victorian meets french shabby chic. I stayed for a good hour and bought a few well priced trinkets.”
Halcyon Days 15.01.10
“I was really impressed with this little shop with it's mix of vintage, antique and bric-a-brac. A vintage Players cigarette crate was £26 - half the price of London - and there was a nice selection of 1930's lipstick cases and perfume bottles.”
Club 55, St Tropez 02.11.09
“The first beach club in St Tropez, and probably because of this, the most stylish. There is nothing chi chi about this place with its driftwood tables and old linen canopies protecting diners from a real St Tropez tan. The food is average, the prices high and the waiters rude and this would be the sort of place I would normally hate but there is somethin so incredibly chic, so effortlessly timeless about it. A true classic”
Bill's Produce Store 02.11.09
“The moment you walk in the door you pick up that buzz which only comes from a place where the owners are serious about food, how it's cooked and where it's sourced. There is a fantastic café with a daily specials board and a huge variety of vegetarian salads that come with main courses or on their own. All the usual suspects are on the cake and pudding counter - and save enough time to do a little shopping in the grocery section - or a lot of shopping as in my case - cheaper than London too.”
Dock Kitchen 02.11.09
“Pop-up kitchen collaboration between Tom Dixon and Stevie Parle (The River Café) and now a permament fixture after its deserved success. Tom Dixon was actually cooking the day we had lunch which was pretty cool and the food was thoughtful, skillfully cooked and delicious. The menu is short and all about what is currently in season, and you can have lunch most days and supper on Thursday evenings when the guys cook up a themed dinner. Definitely book.”
Ainsworths Homeopathic Pharmacy 02.11.09
“”
The Ginger Pig 02.11.09
“Probably the best butcher in England. Also in Borough Market, London SE1”
Officino Profumo Farmaceutica Di Santa Maria Novella 02.11.09
“All the recipes for this ancient and very styly apothecary are still faithfully followed and handmade. The packagin practically makes me swoon and everything is 100% natural.”

Luna and Curious 02.11.09
“Brilliant mix of found and made curiosities”
Chamberlayne Road 02.11.09
“West London's newest destination for quality second-hand clothes and furniture. Check out Circus, Halle and Bell and Niche”
Scarlet & Violet 02.11.09
“The best flower shop in London. Vic used to do the flowers at Wild at Heart and her shop is far better and cheaper. Bouquets of wild English herbs, flowers and heirloom roses are just delightful.”
Simon Finch Rare Books 02.11.09
“The best book shop in London”
Petersham Nurseries 02.11.09
“My absolute favourite place for lunch or tea. Skye Gylinhall cooks like a goddess and you munch away sitting on French antique garden furniture surrounded by shrubs and flowers. Outside is gorgeous in summer but heated greenhouses make sure you are snug and dry in winter. Approached down a country lane and only 25 minutes from Chelsea!”
La Fromagerie 02.11.09
“Famous for its cheese room but the excellent shop and café have now been extended, thankfully making the queue shorter!”
The Electric Cinema 02.11.09
“The Electric with its huge leather pullman seats, ottoman foot rests and well stocked bar has the feeling of a Hollywood producers' private screening room”
Daylesford Farm Shop and Spa 02.11.09
“The first and in my opinion the best. I practically swooned when I first walked through the doors. Carol Bamford has triumphed with her stylish yet ethical combo.”
V&A Museum & Cafe 02.11.09
“Deservedly world renowned and the newly refurbished café also has the wow factor.”
Clifton Nurseries 02.11.09
“At Christmas they light up the entrance and courtyard with hundreds of fairy lights and have the best selection of Christmas trees in London.”
Summerill and Bishop 02.11.09
“Wonderful French pots and pans, old linens and vintage jam jars.”
Peter Jones 02.11.09
“God I love Peter Jones. The customer service is bar none and it has everything a good old-fashioned department store should.”
VV Rouleaux 02.11.09
“Haven for haberdashery enthusiasts with an exquisite selection of ribbons”
